Wikipedia describes gallows humor as follows: “Gallows humor is humor about very unpleasant, serious, or painful circumstances. Any humor that treats serious matters, such as death, war, disease, and crime, in a light, silly or satirical fashion is considered gallows humor. Gallows humor has been described as a witticism in response to a hopeless situation.”
The man is setting up a gallows, hence the joke, which is a very bad pun.

Oooohhhhhh!! NOW I GET ITT! I mean…I first heard the word wayyyyy back when I first watched Pirates if the Carribean but couldn’t make sense of it in this one..BUT NOW I GET ITT! And it’s not bad…maybe I ruined by asking the meaning which, let’s face it, ruins even the best jokes so..yeah…sorry about that!! HHAHAH. XDXDXDXDXD
